A Light-Filled Bittern Kitchen Renovation with Custom Shaker Cabinetry
For this kitchen renovation in Bittern, we transformed an existing traditional kitchen into a brighter, more functional space while retaining the warmth and character of the home. The new design introduces a soft, timeless colour palette, improved storage and a more generous working layout, creating a kitchen that feels established rather than overly contemporary.
At the centre of the renovation is custom cabinetry extending to the ceiling, finished with 2 Pac shaker-style doors and detailed with classic metal handles. The cabinetry was designed at approximately 2.7 metres high, incorporating a pull-out pantry and MDF bulkheads for a seamless built-in appearance.
Glass-fronted overhead cabinets and open display sections provide opportunities to showcase favourite pieces while breaking up the solid cabinetry. The pale blue joinery is paired with substantial 40mm Quantum Quartz benchtops, bringing a crisp stone look to the perimeter and central island. The island provides additional preparation space, casual seating and practical integrated storage, including open shelving that gives the kitchen a relaxed, lived-in quality.
A classic butler’s sink sits beneath the generous window, complemented by traditional-style tapware and uninterrupted benchtop space on either side. The kitchen also includes a 600mm tiled splashback and a custom enclosed bulkhead around the slide-out rangehood, with tiling carried through to create a cohesive finish. The glossy white subway tiles add texture while reflecting the abundant natural light.
Careful alterations to the surrounding architecture were also an important part of this Bittern kitchen renovation. The project documentation included raising the existing kitchen window, installing new cavity sliding doors, relocating French doors and a leadlight feature, and making good sections of the timber flooring following demolition. These details allowed us to improve circulation and functionality while respecting the home’s original character.
